Guess what? It’s time!
I just had a call from the hospital and they’ve had a cancellation! I’m going in tomorrow morning for my op! I am having my jpouch removed, my butt sewn up and a permanent ileostomy formed.
I am a bit in shock, it is all very real now. I mean, I knew it was coming but this is it, the final day of my life without an ostomy.
I’m scared, upset and bewildered but life at the minute is crap, I am so ill, I go to the toilet 20 times a day and have accidents, so it has got to be better than this!
I will ask Timm to update when he can, if you don’t already, you can follow me on Facebook and twitter where I am more likely to be (though the internet/phone connection in the hospital is shit!)
It’s a big operation and recovery takes a while, but I will try and blog whenever I can. I just hope this is the start of a new, happier and healthier life for me. I’m a bit in shock and need to go pack my bags and get myself ready, so I’d better get off now as I think I am waffling.

On a more serious note, good luck and best wishes. I had my jpouch removed 12 months ago after the most miserable year of my life, and have subsequently had one of the best years of my life (not least because even being able to do the most basic things like popping to the shops without discomfort or fear of an accident became a real pleasure). I hope you get the same deal, we all know you deserve it!

I want you to know that I had this operation in April and it was ok. I was in hospital for two weeks and my recovery was slow, I feel a sense of freedom in the fact that I no longer need to worry about pooping myself and I love that I don’t have an operation hanging over my head for the first time since 2013. I hope that you feel the same sense of freedom and that you are ok. I will be sending you kind thoughts and hugs. Xx

Good luck, I think you will be soo much happier. My 12 year old was swimming 1 week after his ostomy was done.
I don’t have any personal experience to share with you and to reassure you. But I wanted to say I hope all goes ok and your recovery is fast and straight-forward. You and your family deserve some happy times with no worries or pain discomfort and embarrassment. I’ll be thinking of you. Get well soon. xx

Thinking of you Sam as always. You will be much better. I had this op after rectal cancer which was reversed but I have awful problems still and wonder now whether the reversal was a mistake? Hang in there. You have made the right decision. Sue x
